Momentum (Men’s Group)The Men's Group meets approximately bi-monthly at the Horse and Groom Public House in Linby or Rolls Royce Leisure Lounge. There is a comfortable and relaxed environment. The meetings normally commence at 7:45pm for an 8:00pm start. Each meeting we invite a guest speaker to come and speak to us about his/her life and the significance of his/her Christian faith within it. This normally lasts for 1 hour after which we encourage fellowship and share a buffet meal together.Recent speakers have included: John Hattam - Lone walker and Wine enthusiast. John shared tales of his pilgrimage through France and Spain, interspersed with tasting of wines of the region. Ian Wilson - Bridge to Aid Dental Charity, Tanzania. Ian shared his passion for the people of the Mcumbi Leper Colony with us. Phil Helmsley - Electronics Engineer GEC. Challenged us with his story of coming to faith. Brother John - Franciscan Monk. John enlightened us as to what life is like in the Order of St Francis. On Monday evenings there is five-a-side football on the all weather pitch at National School. The idea is to encourage Christian and non-Christian men to mix together and get some exercise! We have seen numbers rise to around 20 most weeks. This event remains competitive and good spirited. It is worth coming just to see Shane Witherden strut his stuff and to get a glimpse of Trevor Clay’s smile! We work closely with Dom Conidi and friends from St Michaels, Linby, and we are very grateful for Keith Turner and Dom’s support. In 2009 and 2010 groups of Men from the church have visited Romania to assist the “NetWorks” organisation in thier mission. Visit their website http://www.networks.org.ro/ for more information on the work of NetWorks. |
