Advent Services"Advent" - "towards the coming" (at least that's what my recollection of Latin from years ago tells me!)
A time to look towards our celebration of the coming of Jesus, the Son of God, to live as a man. And a time to look towards his return, or second coming, which is promised in the Bible.
Each year we have an advent wreath with 5 candles, one for each of the Sundays before Christmas day and a final candle to represent Jesus, which is lit on Christmas day. There's lots to think about as we prepare so the candles can represent various themes, but this year we consider Hope, Love, Joy and Peace as we prepare for Christmas.Sunday 27th November - HOPE
An all age service, starting with a light breakfast (danish pastries, muffins, etc). In the evening there is a Churches Together Service at Holy Cross Church on Watnall Road
This service will be our gift service, collecting gifts which will be distributed to local families in need.
Traditionally the third Sunday of Advent would have been a break from fasting - so a good day to consider joy!
In a world of war, conflict and unrest we think about the peace that Jesus brings. In the afternoon (4.00pm) we have our Carol Service, with drama, orchestra and choir. Refreshments served afterwards.
Christmas Eve Communion
United Christmas Day Family Service All are welcome to these Advent and Christmas services. We hope that everyone will know the hope, love, joy and peace of the season!
