Thanks to all who contributed to the Christmas Card Appeal and the Christmas Day appeal. We have been able to send gifts of over £800 to Uganda to buy equipment for schools, and approximately £8000 to NetWorks in Romania for the refurbishment of a hostel for homeless men.
As a church we have supported the work of Networks in Romania for a number of years and some of our members have been out to Arad and Siria to help out. They are in the final stages of refurbishing a hostel for homeless men, but red tape from the European Union means this is more complicated and costly than really necessary!! Temperatures in the winter are often minus 20 degrees C. To help them get the hostel up and running as soon as possible we'd like to give them a big Christmas gift. Therefore on Christmas Day there will be a special offering for Networks. If you'd like to support the project but aren't around on Christmas Day please pass your gift to Trevor Clay.
Launching Saturday 10th September at Watnall Road Baptist Church...
Community Action Teams
Starting with coffee and prayer at church, 9.00-9.30am. Then going out to serve our community and returning to church at 12.00noon.
There will be 3 teams - gardening, litter collection and visiting residential homes. Please get in touch if you can join in, or just turn up on Saturday morning.

Community Action Teams will take place on alternate months on the second Saturday of the month. So if you can't make it this time there's always November...After the success of the Action Teams during the Staycation weekend back in May and listening to God’s challenge for us to do more serving our local community - we are planning these bi-monthly teams. We hope to develop further teams also, to add to the three operating in September.

Everyone can take part. There will be sign up sheets before the Action Saturday, or you can just turn up in the morning.

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong of the family of believers.” Galatians 5:10

Bags and bags of litter picked and garden rubbish cleared on Saturday, as well as cards made, cakes decorated, cars washed, and elderly folk visited. Fantastic sunshine at Rufford Abbey. Some energetic people at leisure centre. Amazing fashion at the social. Cool music (and marshmallows in the hot chocolate) at Chill Zone. Was there much sleep at the sleepover? Menu church gave food for thought.

On Sunday evening, 12th December, we were delighted to baptise 8 young people - Rachel, Lucy, Jordan, Holly, Gemma, Emily, Charis and Asher. The church was packed with friends and family as the young people shared the stories of how they had come to this point in their faith journeys and then were baptised. We had a joyful time worshipping, each one having chosen a song. We pray for God's blessings on all our young people this week and look forward to more baptisms to come.The young people shared their different stories. Some had been brought up in church families all their lives and couldn’t point to particular dates of conversion. Others have only started attending church more recently. They all testified to their faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, and their desire to serve God with their lives.
It was particularly poignant to welcome Gemma’s Grandad into the baptismal pool to baptise her; for Ian to baptise his eldest children, Asher and Charis; and for Sally to baptise her daughter Emily.
Our rejoicing continued with coffee, cake and chip butties after the service!

Day of Prayer and Fasting

As preparation for our Church "New Start Day" on 20th November we are holding a day of prayer and fasting on Tuesday 16th November. Everyone is encouraged to find some time for special prayer and to consider fasting. Whilst this will mainly be personal prayer, the church will be open 10.00-11.00am, 2.00-3.00pm, and 7.00-8.00pm for anyone who would prefer to pray at church.
Click on this story for more guidance and prayer pointers.“So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.” (Ezra 8:23)
Jesus expected his followers to fast, he didn’t say “If you fast” but “when you fast” (Matthew 6:16). Fasting and prayer are often linked in the Bible, especially for special times of prayer. Therefore as we approach the church New Start Day, I would like to encourage everyone to consider praying and fasting on Tuesday 16th November.

You may wish to fast for 24 hours (from tea time to tea time), or perhaps just miss one meal. In a normal fast water is drunk (if you’ve not fasted before you may wish to try fruit juices). If you’re not sure about going without food completely you could try a partial fast, just eating simple foods (see Daniel 10:2,3). If you have any medical conditions you should check it out with your doctor first.

Fasting expresses our spiritual devotion to God and helps us to set aside time to seek God in prayer.

Whether you are able to fast or not, please spend some time on the 16th praying for the church and the New Start Day.

Prayer Pointers
•	Pray for the practical details of the New Start Day and for nothing to hinder people’s attendance;
•	Pray for David Rogers and Mike Fegredo our facilitators on the New Start Day;
•	Think about all the activities of the church, praise God for the things He is doing and pray for God’s direction and success for all these activities;
•	Consider all that our purpose statement “Making Disciples for Jesus” means and pray for us to be effective in fulfilling it;
•	Think about those in our community who don’t know Jesus and pray for God to guide us to be effective in sharing His love in word and deed;
•	Pray for God’s guidance as we consider the future ministry team at Watnall Road;
•	Remember to make time to listen to God in quiet and in reading the Bible.

If you feel God is speaking to you during the day, you may find it helpful to write it down to share later.

If you would prefer to come to Watnall Road to pray, the church will be open for prayer at the following times:
10.00 – 11.00am
2.00 – 3.00pm
7.00 – 8.00pm
