Despite a few inches of snow falling on Sunday morning, 36 gathered for our first "Senior Service". The congregation enjoyed singing some traditional hymns and, inspired by the hymn "How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds", Rev Ian Smith spoke about the name of Jesus: a saving name, a special name, a soveriegn name, and the name of our friend. After the service we enjoyed a fantastic tea together. This new service will be held monthly on the 3rd week of each month.

Farewell to Paul and Mo

On Sunday 7th February Paul took his last service at Watnall Road. Using the story of the people of Israel spying out the land before entering into Canaan, he encouraged us to remember that there is more, never to be satisfied with our Christian lives, but to keep looking for more of God. After the service we enjoyed a Bring and Share Lunch together. On behalf of the church Trevor Clay thanked Paul and Mo for their ministry and gave them a gift as a token of the appreciation of the members of the church. We prayed for Paul's future ministry in Dorking and for the church there.
Paul and Mo move down to Dorking on Monday 15th February and his Induction Service will be on 6th March.

We have at long last received confirmation that the food we sent to Zimbabwe has got through and is much appreciated. Although the food collection is being temporarily suspended, Richard Gaurd, our contact in Derby, is asking if we can help, financially, two ministers who have taken a number of orphans into their famiies. We will be sending Richard the balance of the money you donated (£62.84) in the next few days. The full e-mail can be seen on the noticeboard in the foyer headed "Passion for Zimbabwe."

Sunday morning 6th December was our annual Gift Service. To see the piles of donations around the tree was fantastic. On behalf of Home-Start, who distribute the gifts to children who would otherwise receive little for Christmas, Eileen Smith thanked the church for their generosity. Around 40 families and up to 100 children will benefit.

After the service there was a Christmas meal for nearly 100 members and friends of the church. The catering team did a superb job - a big thank you to all who were involved. It was lovely to share together as a big church family.
